Protecting Rare Coral Reefs

About 100 miles southeast of Galveston, Texas, in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Anadarko is continuously collaborating with industry, federal and state government agencies and researchers to protect the northernmost coral reefs on North America's continental shelf -- the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. Along with other operators, Anadarko is funding the Flower Garden Banks Joint Industry Project to provide scientists at Texas A&M University nearly real-time measurements of water surface currents and temperatures. This is achieved through the deployment, maintenance and monitoring of two state-of-the-art buoys that collect and transmit data. Additionally, the company participates in government studies that monitor the health of the reef and the surrounding marine life.
