Powering the Workforce of the Future
As an industry that supports 10.9 million American jobs, natural gas and oil companies are preparing for the future of energy by investing in a diverse, inclusive and resilient workforce. API members are committed to attracting and retaining the next generation of engineers, scientists and skilled laborers – the problem solvers who will tackle the world’s greatest energy challenges.
Elevating industry-related career pathways and introducing young people to STEM opportunities are essential first steps toward growing the energy workforce. By increasing awareness about natural gas and oil industry careers, API programs seek to address the lack of diversity in the workforce pipeline, particularly among communities of color, women and veterans.
Through a research-driven approach, the industry has established partnerships and invested resources for expanding educational opportunities, particularly in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Last year, in partnership with allied industries and Discovery Education, API launched the STEM Careers Coalition, focused on bridging the workforce skills gap by empowering students and educators in K-12 U.S. schools.
America’s natural gas and oil industry is focused on delivering equal access to high-quality education and employment opportunities, cultivating career readiness and inspiring future innovation.
