Fact Sheet: Industry Practices and Trends Protecting Water Resources During Hydraulic Fracturing
This fact sheet was released last week. Tuesday evening API transmitted to the EPA the Catalyst Environmental Solutions (CES) document titled Industry Practices and Trends Protecting Water Resources During Hydraulic Fracturing: Information for US EPA’s Draft Assessment (October 2016). API emphasized that our “Trends Report” demonstrates that there is an extensive array of industry practices, industry trends, and effective state and federal regulatory programs that protect water resources from potential impacts of hydraulic fracturing at every step of the hydraulic fracturing water cycle. In addition, water management is taking an increasingly prominent place in corporate governance of oil and natural gas companies to reduce risks and to improve sustainability, ensuring that improvement will be an ongoing process. All of this, working together, is exactly why EPA was able to conclude in the Draft Assessment Report that there have been no widespread systemic impacts on water resources as a result of hydraulic fracturing.
