PHILADELPHIA, PA – April 20, 2023 – American Petroleum Institute (API) Vice President of Natural Gas Markets Dustin Meyer today delivered comments before the Philadelphia LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Export Task Force at a public hearing in Philadelphia.
“U.S. LNG is among the most feasible sources of natural gas to replace the magnitude of Russian gas flows,” said Meyer. “The dynamics are thus quite clear: To meet European long-term demand and ensure the energy security of our allies and trading partners, U.S. LNG export capacity will need to expand significantly over the coming decades.”
A recent study by Rystad Energy has shown that considerably more U.S. LNG will likely be required to fully rebalance European gas markets in the wake of Russian’s invasion of Ukraine.
“America has become more prosperous and more secure in the world because of U.S. LNG, and this Task Force can build upon this success by putting forward smart, balanced recommendations to establish Pennsylvania as a leader in this effort,” Meyer said.
The Philadelphia LNG Export Task Force was established by Act 133 of 2022 to produce a report on how to develop an LNG export terminal in southeast Pennsylvania. Members include Chair State Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia), the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority, several state agencies, other leaders in the region and two representatives of the natural gas industry, including API Pennsylvania.
