WASHINGTON, October 7, 2024 – The American Petroleum Institute (API) today announced Kevin Slagle has joined the organization as its new senior vice president of communications. Slagle will lead API’s communications team to advance the U.S. oil and natural gas industry’s priorities in Washington, including those outlined in API’s 5-Point Policy Roadmap.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to lead communications on behalf of an industry tackling the world’s most pressing energy challenges,” API Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy Officer Amanda Eversole said. “Kevin is a seasoned leader and communicator with a proven track record at the center of some of the industry’s most consequential advocacy campaigns. His strategic approach and passion for American energy will be essential to advancing our members’ priorities in Washington.”

“I am excited to join API at a pivotal moment for America’s energy future,” said Slagle. “The U.S. oil and natural gas industry is critical for powering our economy, driving innovation and strengthening national security, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead our efforts to carry that message to policymakers and consumers across the country.”

Slagle brings more than two decades of experience in the oil and natural gas industry and will oversee all communications for API’s integrated advocacy efforts, including earned and paid media, digital communications, research and thought leadership. This includes leading API’s multi-year Lights on Energy campaign to educate voters and policymakers on the critical role of U.S. oil and natural gas in meeting global demand for affordable, reliable and cleaner energy.

Slagle previously served as vice president of strategy and communications for the Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA) and held leadership roles at global public relations firms, including Oglivy Public Relations and Edelman.
